Public Notification that Boil Water requirement has ended April 15, 2021

Effective April 15 at 7 PM the boil water requirement has ended for all residents served by the village water supply – Water District No. 1 and all village water users.

Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health and our water consultants agreed on a bacteriological sampling program that would be used to determine if our water supply system has returned to normal and is safe to drink and use for culinary purposes.

Two rounds of bacteriological samples were collected yesterday from all parts of our distribution system. It takes 24 hours for this bacteriological test to produce results. We can now report that results demonstrate that no coliform bacteria were present in any of the collected samples and our water supply is now safe to use without boiling.

The Village is working on programs to improve notifications to you in the event that additional breaks occur. The Village is also investigating how the distribution system may be enhanced to minimize future system wide pressure loss events.

The Village will post the notification information on its website and provide flyers in future water bills to get the word out. Please share this information with other people who drink this water, especially anyone who may not get this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).  You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

Also, please sign up for DutchessDelivery – as this will notify you when the village posts something on our website or go to

What Are the Next Steps

Water System Notification

On the afternoon of April 13, 2021 a water main break and its repair caused an interruption in water system pressure and many of the customers living at higher elevations were without water. A formal notice will be delivered to the Villages 694 customers during the evening of April 13, 2021 with details of procedures that system users should follow to insure that water used for drinking and culinary purposes is safe. In the meantime please boil any water to be used for drinking or culinary purposed for 5 minutes at a rolling boil before use.

The Village will sample the distribution system tomorrow and Thursday to confirm that the water is safe to drink. We are hopeful that the boil water notice will be lifted on Friday.
